You will never know unless you try right? You didn't make it clear if you were just good friends or already seeing each other/not quite dating; but if you're already seeing each other ask him if he would be interested in taking it to the next level..dating exclusively. You have to make it clear that you are gay, and if he knows that and accepts that, then build a stronger relationship (as a friend). Then when all is said and done, subtlety ask the question when you think the time is right.
How long have you known him and do you know for sure he's gay?
If you've known him for awhile and you know he's gay/bi then I say go for it! But remember, once you cross the line into ';more than friends'; it's almost impossible to go back.
